Despair is suffering without meaning
— Viktor E. Frankl

Therapy

  • You might have always wanted to try therapy but found it quite daunting. You might have never seen yourself as someone who might go to therapy. You may have had numerous therapies already. Therapy is there for everyone and anyone. It can help you to:

    • make decisions, get unstuck (or find comfort in stuckness) and create meaningful change

    • open up, create space, make sense of complicated thoughts and feelings

    • find balance and integrate inner and outer worlds

    • heal emotional wounds from the inside out, develop coping strategies and increase resilience

  • Typically therapy involves talking about what’s on your mind, however sometimes there is strength in action; using behavioural strategies we can understand your experience from a different angle. Some approaches think holistically about the mind-body connection and use different techniques to engage the body and nervous system. Silence is powerful too and sometimes we will focus on creating space for silence in the comfort and safety of the therapeutic space. Typically therapists will explore this with you at the start of therapy. I strongly believe in working transparently with my clients; we will consider how different approaches might support you towards your goals and choose the ones that resonate for you.

  • My aim is for you to leave therapy having gained something. Together we will explore what brought you to therapy and what it is that you hoping to get from therapy. I offer you a safe and confidential space where we can reflect on your unique experiences together. Using a range of resources, techniques and approaches I can help you find ways of lessening the confusion, distress or pain that has brought you here. I’m here to support you in your journey. Although suffering is unavoidable at times, I believe there are things we can do to alleviate or at times prevent it.

You may have come across different types of therapy or heard people use various acronyms to describe different therapies. It can often be quite confusing and difficult to know what is best. If you’d like to know more about different types of therapy, you can find more information on my website, and on the BACP and UKCP websites.

I welcome you to contact me to discuss what’s on your mind and together we can identify what might be right for you.

Sessions

  • Ongoing sessions are typically scheduled weekly, however on occasion we might agree to meet  fortnightly, monthly or ad hoc, for example as we near an ending or if top up sessions are requested after a period of regular therapy.

  • I currently offer sessions online worldwide via Zoom.

  • In many ways there is no one answer to this question as the experience of counselling and therapy is subjective and based on the experience each one of us has engaging with it. However, in general terms counselling and therapy are synonymous and are referred to as a talking therapy. It is clear that when we can voice what we experience inside of ourselves that this can create relief and clarity. By doing so in a safe and confidential space with a trained professional many people feel better able to navigate day-to-day life.

  • This is an important question that we can discuss early on in our work together and can be reviewed as our work unfolds. I offer short and long term, fixed or open-ended sessions based on your needs.

  • A diagnosis is sometimes a helpful short cut to make sense of what you are experiencing and for some people it can be a validating experience to finally put a description to the pain they have felt, however some people find diagnoses stigmatizing and an inaccurate reflection of what they experience. I believe that everyone, whether they have a diagnosis or not, can benefit from psychological therapy and look forward to exploring your unique experience with you.

Fees

  • The price per session will depend on the length of and the nature of the session, which we will decide at the start of our work together. Typically sessions last 50 minutes (the therapeutic hour), however sometimes having longer sessions is useful, for example during EMDR processing or for individuals with neurodiversity who sometimes find it helpful to have slightly longer sessions to accommodate the way their minds work. One off sessions, couples sessions, and assessments are also priced differently.

    Price range: £75-200.

Typically a standard 50min session is £100, EMDR at 90min is £125, couples at 75min is £150, and assessments and one-off sessions are £200.

Contact me so we can make a bespoke plan for you and your needs.

  • I work with international insurance companies on a case by case basis.

  • Practitioners in the private sector choose their own fees, resulting in a range of rates. This is based on different factors including philosophical stance on fees, room rental costs, number of years and experience of the practitioner, and investments made such as years and cost of training(s).

  • Sessions are paid on a session by session basis or monthly. If sessions are paid session by session then payment is made on the day of the session, ideally before the session begins. If sessions are paid monthly this is done at the start of the month (like a gym membership). Invoices for monthly payments are available upon request. Bank details will be provided before the first session.

  • Private therapy can be expensive and paying for it, especially longer term therapy, can be a real challenge. I invite you to contact me to discuss your concerns so that we can make a plan that feels right for you. This might include looking at other options such as:

    • NHS support - most individuals will be required to self refer or be referred through their GP.

    • Charities like MIND.

    • Low-fee services including the Guild of psychotherapists, WPF, etc.
